In the true spirit of UBUNTU, NMMU students are learning the value of giving back. Every day 123 pupils, from Grade 1 to 12, attend Bathandwa Ndwayana’s Bona Dream Club in Walmer Township.  After his temporary teaching contract was not renewed, Bathandwa decided that he would not sit around and mope but he would put his skills to use and  start a homework club.  The homework club, which is run out of two containers,  has gained popularity and  numbers steadily increased. In partnership with African Unity Foundation,  8 NMMU students go out on a daily basis to  Walmer Township to assist the learners with their homework.

In the words of NMMU student Tawanda Musonza : “ Wow. had my most impacting volunteering experience ever at the homework club in Walmer yesterday!! Bathandwa is truly creating change in the young lives he touches every day. Opportunities like these to give back show how much need there is in the world we live. Thank you AUF and NMMU for bringing this awareness and encouraging, change creation, dream building, community transformation and life reformation.”
